Letters of Support of the Second Chance Program

The following are some of the letters of support for the Second Chance Program:

Dr. Alfonso Paredes, M.D. and Professor Emeritus UCLA School of Behavioral Science states, "It was particularly important to me to have interacted personally with the inmates, shaking hands, talking with them and asking many questions. I observed first hand the rehabilitative process and the responses of hard core drug abusers and law offenders to the program. I have had opportunity to do many visits to substance abuse rehabilitative programs throughout the US for the National Institute on Alchohol Abuse and Alchoholism (NAAA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). I have had administrative responsibilities for statewide substance abuse rehabilitative systems as well as for programs in major academic institutions in the US. I have never been as deeply impressed as I was during my visit to the Second Chance Program.... Kent McGregor, who previously was the Director of Substance Abuse for New Mexico and later a CARF Certifier has acted as a consultant for the Second Chance Program and has outlined in a letter how the various parts of the SCP fall within what is considered best practice in substance abuse treatment. He states, "The Second Chance Program uses a holistic approach of exercise combined with the use of nutrients to replace those metabolic difficiencies. They use a sauna/nutritional detoxification therapy that reduces the burden of toxic body metabolites. They additionally use motivational interviews, contingency management, community reinforcement therapy combined into a successful matrix model in a social detox therapeutic community enviroment...
